Consider Donating Next Deer to the Georgia Hunters for the Hungry Program

COVINGTON, Ga.

For some Georgia families, a warm meal on the table isn’t always guaranteed.

This hunting season, hunters have an opportunity to make a difference by donating harvested deer through the Georgia Hunters for the Hungry® (GHFTH) program, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division (WRD).

“For many Georgia hunters, the reward of a successful hunt goes beyond filling their own freezer. Through the Hunters for the Hungry® program, they have an opportunity to share their harvest and make a meaningful difference in the lives of fellow Georgians,” said Chris Harper, Director of the Wildlife Resources Division, Georgia DNR. “With more participating processors and an increased venison donation goal this year, we hope to reach even more families facing food insecurity. Hunters can donate their deer at no cost, knowing their contribution not only helps put nutritious meals on the table but also supports responsible deer management.”

GHFTH has been providing high-quality protein to hungry Georgians since 1993. Last season, donations exceeded 144,000 pounds.

While donating a deer to a processor is one way to help, there are other ways to participate:

  • Promoting GHFTH and identifying new processors in underserved areas.
  • Becoming a participating processor.

The Georgia Hunters for the Hungry program is a partnership of the Georgia Wildlife Federation, the Georgia Wildlife Resources Division, the Georgia Food Bank Association and Municipal Development Services, LLC.
