Fishing - Red Top Mountain State Park

Red Top Mountain State Park occupies a peninsula at the junction of the Etowah River and Allatoona Creek arms of Lake Allatoona. The reservoir offers a variety of fish including largemouth and Alabama bass (a type of spotted bass found in the Coosa River drainage), hybrid, striped and white bass, black and white crappie, bluegill, redbreast sunfish, shellcrackers, carp, lake sturgeon, and flathead, blue and channel catfish. The most common species caught within the park are the Alabama bass, bluegill, crappie and catfish. With the lake having a relatively barren floor, targeting rocks and fallen trees along the shore are the best places to find fish. Two boat ramps provide access for boaters, in addition to several options for shore access in the park. A place for finding the spotted bass is along steeply inclined rocky shores. A fishing dock is located in this type of habitat, as well as a rocky point at Picnic Shelter 7 at the end of Red Top Mountain Beach Road. For catching bluegill, crappie and catfish, any of the coves with submerged trees are good bets. Visitors must provide their own fishing equipment.
