Outdoors Beyond Barriers: Hunting

The Outdoors Beyond Barriers (OBB) initiative emphasizes removing obstacles to help people connect with nature, explore the outdoors and take part in activities like hunting and fishing that may have previously been unavailable.

Public Land Opportunities

  • OBB Regional Adaptive Hunts – These hunts are staffed by individuals dedicated to make the event fully accessible to its registrants. Adaptive equipment, blinds and staff assistance are part of the services that will be available on site. These hunts are found on the Go Outdoors System using the search in the type as “Outdoors Beyond Barriers – Accessibility Hunt”. You can find videos below showing you how to apply on both the computer and the phone app.

  • Mobility Impaired Hunts – These hunts are found in our regulation booklets each season and are not a quota hunt, unless otherwise listed. Attendance at these hunts is open to hunters with mobility impairments and focus on providing an independent experience with ease of access. For more information contact the regional office.

  • Specialty Hunts – This hunt is for Youth (under 16), Ladies, Disability License Holders, Georgia veterans, Honorary License Holders and hunters over the age of 65. These hunts are found in the regulations booklet and are sign-in unless otherwise noted.

Private Land Opportunities

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources partners with private landowners to provide outdoor opportunities for individuals who experience barriers to enjoying the outdoors. Accessibility needs are arranged directly between the landowner and the hunter.

  • Landowner Opportunities – If you would like to open your land up for hunting, please fill out this Private Land Interest Form and someone will contact you shortly from the OBB Office.
  • Hunter Opportunities – As opportunities for partnerships are created, hunt applications will be placed on the Go Outdoors System by county so you can choose one closest to you.

Licensing:

While all hunts taking place under the Outdoors Beyond Barriers program require you to have the hunter safety and licensing required under law, we have two special licenses in the State of Georgia to make this an easier process for those with disabilities.

  • Disability License: Georgia residents who are permanently and totally disabled may obtain a Disability License. Please visit the disability permits and passes page for more information.
  • Courtesy Licenses:
    • Individual - These free licenses are available to Georgia residents or non-resident participating in OBB Regional Adaptive Hunts and Private Land opportunities for the period of the specific event. Contact Linda Eipper at 770-784-3063 or linda.eipper@gmail.com to receive a courtesy license for the event at no cost.
    • Group - These free licenses are available to groups hosting adaptive hunting and fishing activities for residents or non-residents in the state of Georgia. Please fill out the group courtesy license request and someone will contact you shortly.
