Fishing - George T. Bagby State Park

Walter F. George Reservoir offers a variety of warm-water species, such as largemouth, hybrid, striped and white bass, blue, channel and flathead catfish, crappie, bluegill and shellcrackers. The lake is famous for its “ledge” fishing that occurs just offshore on the south end of the park. Just north of the park between the Sandy Creek and Sandy Branch arms of the lake, targeting the east side of three small islands can be productive, as well as cypress trees along the park’s shoreline. In the deeper water to the west of the park marina just outside of the mouth of Sandy Creek to north of Sandy Branch, schools of hybrid and white bass can be targeted from June through September as they follow pods of shad. In March, crappie can be caught in the Sandy Creek arm on which the marina is located. Bank anglers can do well fishing minnows under bobbers. In spring or early summer, baits fished on the bottom may be successful for catfish. (Information provided by OnTheFlySouth.com.)
