Public Hearing for Proposed Amendment to Hunting Regulations Scheduled for June

SOCIAL CIRCLE, Ga. (5/27/2011)

A proposed amendment to hunting regulations is under consideration by the Board of Natural Resources. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division will hold a public hearing to receive comment on the following: Proposed Amendment to Rule 391-4-2-.71, Federal Wildlife Areas.

The purpose of proposed hunting regulations is to manage Georgia’s game birds and game animals according to sound principles of wildlife management and to meet public objectives for use of these renewable natural resources. The purpose of the proposed amendment to the existing rule reflects the need to modify the season for pursuit of bears with dogs for training purposes on the Chattahoochee National Forest. Those interested are encouraged to bring this hearing to the attention of others who also may wish to participate.  

Members of the general public will have an opportunity to provide input at the following Division sponsored public hearing: 

  • Tuesday, June 14, 2011 (7 pm); White County High School, 2600 Highway 129 North, Cleveland

Any participant at the hearing may present data, make a statement or comment or offer a viewpoint or argument, either orally or in writing. Statements should be concise to permit everyone an opportunity to speak. Participants are required to register upon arrival and notify the registering official of their intent to give a statement. Those unable to attend the hearings may submit comments electronically through the Division website at www.gohuntgeorgia.com (select “Hunting” “Hunting Regulations” then “Submitting Comments Re Hunting Regulations”) or by mail prior to close of business June 24, 2011. Written statements should be mailed toGeorgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division/Game Management Section; Attn: John W. The Board of Natural Resources will consider the proposed amendment and any comments received during the public hearing process June 29, 2011 at 9 a.m. at the DNR Boardroom (2 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, SE, Suite 1252, Atlanta, Georgia).
