Seeking Spotted Skunks

Eastern spotted skunk. Photo by Bob Gress

DNR is seeking information to help determine the population and distribution of the eastern spotted skunk in Georgia.

Although Spilogale putorius is purportedly found statewide except in the Atlantic Coastal Plain, the eastern spotted skunk is uncommon and little is known about the status of this squirrel-sized creature in Georgia.

  • Learn more in this profile, including how the spotted skunk differs from more common striped skunks.
  • And if you see a spotted skunk (alive or dead), please let us know. Here’s how!
