A new archery range at Victoria Bryant State Park, located near Royston and Franklin Springs, is now available for archers, bow hunters, youth groups and others interested in perfecting their target skills. It is one of 13 archery ranges currently available on public land in Georgia, and one of two ranges located at a State Park.
The Archery Range at Victoria Byrant consists of two ranges. The first is a static range with four targets that range from 10 – 40 yards in length. Here, archers shoot into large “bow butt” targets that are secured into freestanding target sheds. The second range is a 3-D trail with 20 realistic targets at various distances.
The range will serve as a resource for area archers and bow hunters, for park programming activities and for school groups participating in the National Archery in Schools Program. Users need to bring their own gear. To reduce impact to targets, broadheads are not allowed.
To help the park maintain the range, users will pay a $10 daily ($5 for children 12 and younger) or $100 individual/$150 family annual ($50 for children 12 and younger) fee. Permits may be purchased at the park office.
The development of the range has been a collaborative effort between Georgia Department of Natural Resources State Parks & Historic Sites Division and Wildlife Resources Division. Using funds from the Federal Wildlife and Sportfish Restoration Program, the Wildlife Resources Division was able to supply materials needed for construction while Victoria Bryant will manage, administer and maintain the range.
Sportsmen and women provide more than $30 million each year through the Federal Wildlife and Sportfish Restoration Program to fund wildlife conservation in the state through license fees and self-imposed excise taxes collected on the purchase of firearms, ammunition, archery equipment and fishing equipment. Funds are granted on the State level based on several factors, including the number of paid sporting licenses in Georgia.
The Archery Range at Victoria Bryant State Park will be open seven days a week from 8 a.m. until sunset. To learn more, visit www.gastateparks.org/VictoriaBryant or call (706) 245-6270.
