Disability Hunting & Fishing Licenses

Resident Disability Hunting & Fishing License Options

Disability Hunting and Fishing License Application

Went into effect July 1, 2017.

Discounted disability hunting and fishing licenses are available to residents of Georgia. This license type cannot be obtained or renewed online—you will need to complete the application form and mail it with supporting documents to the address on the form. If you require application review accommodations, please call 1-800-366-2661.

Disability License Prices

Persons are strongly encouraged to consider purchasing three-year disability license types, rather than annual types. Renewal of the annual license requires submitting documents each year dated with the past year to show continued disability, versus once for the three year license. Payment of transaction fees each year for the annual license types means that persons pay an extra $6 over a three year period—the three year license will save $6 over the three year period and doesn’t require yearly paperwork.

Resident Sportsman’s Disability License

  • Three-Year $15.00 + $3.00 transaction fee = $18.00
  • Annual $5.00 + $3.00 transaction fee = $8.00

Resident Hunting Disability License

  • Three-Year $9.00 + $3.00 transaction fee = $12.00
  • Annual $3.00 + $3.00 transaction fee = $6.00

Resident Fishing Disability License

  • Three-Year $9.00 + $3.00 transaction fee = $12.00
  • Annual $3.00 + $3.00 transaction fee = $6.00

Lifetime License Option

Georgia residents who are 65 or older may find it more convenient to get a lifetime license—which does not have to be renewed—instead of the disability license. For residents born before July 1, 1952, the senior lifetime sportsman’s license is free, and for residents born on or after July 1, 1952 the lifetime senior sportsman’s license is $70, or $35 for hunting or for fishing only. This license does not have to be renewed, and remains valid if the person moves out of state or if they are no longer disabled.

About Resident Disability Licenses

Resident Disability Sportsman’s Licenses includes all state paid recreational hunting and fishing privileges (see below for additional no-cost state licenses that may be required). The Disability License includes hunting, big game, Georgia Migratory Bird Stamp, salt and freshwater fishing, and mountain trout licenses.

Resident Lifetime Fishing License for the Blind

A free Resident Lifetime Fishing License is available for persons that are totally blind with no light perception (NLP). Mark the proper section of the disability application, and send a Physician’s Certification of Total Blindness that states you are totally blind with no light perception (NLP). This certification must be dated within the last year.

To obtain the resident disability license, you will need to send the following with your completed application:

  1. Either of the following two certifications:
    • If veteran's affairs certified your disability—a copy of the Veterans Affair’s letter stating that you are 100% disabled, or one of the other documents listed in the application. The letter or document needs to be dated within the last year, and rather than being date stamped have a date included in the letter. If you are using the Veterans Affairs letter, the application describes a procedure near the bottom of the front page after “Veterans Office:” that we have worked out with the Veterans Office to request an acceptable Hunting and Fishing License Authorization Letter with an included date—please show them this section of the application if they are unfamiliar with the procedure.
    • If the Social Security Administration certified your disability, you may send us a copy of the Notice of Award Letter dated within the past year. You may obtain these from the Social Security Office by calling 1-800-772-1213.
  2. Proof of Georgia residency—a copy of your Georgia driver’s license or a copy of your official Georgia ID card.

Remaining Licenses or Permits That May Be Needed

Remaining licenses or permits that may be needed are the free annual state harvest record (deer and turkey), the free annual Georgia Migratory Bird Stamp, free annual state SIP License for salt water fishing, and/or the federal duck stamp, depending on what is being hunted. If you need any of these four, they must be renewed each year. These are available anywhere Georgia licenses are sold, including through our online web site, by phone, or at a license agent. The Federal Duck Stamp is also available at Post Offices, and online from the USFWS. There is a federally required fee for the Federal Duck Stamp.

The disability license includes alligator hunting when assisting a quota alligator harvest permit holder. Trapping or other commercial licenses are not included. Persons born on or after January 1, 1961 must have hunter education to obtain a disability license that includes hunting; but may initial the front of the application if they want fishing privileges only.
