What to Expect When Working with the Private Lands Program (PLP) Biologist

  1. Initial Meeting: The first step in developing a plan is to determine what are your goals and objectives for your property. We find that establishing the landowner’s objectives for the property is key to developing a good plan. Talking with a PLP biologist can help you define your goals.
  2. Ride the Property: The PLP biologist will set up a site visit. This is an important step that allows the PLP biologist to get a better idea of the current condition of your property. It also allows us a chance to identify any issues that may need to be addressed to improve the property for wildlife.
  3. Management Plan: Armed with an understanding of the landowner, property and situation, the PLP biologist will develop a management plan specifically for your property. The management plan will describe the actions needed to create and maintain habitat on the property and resources that might be available to help with the effort. These plans are free of charge and voluntary. It is up to the landowner to choose which parts of the plan to act upon. In some cases, the BQI biologist can help guide the landowner through opportunities for financial assistance to offset costs of implementing the plan.
  4. Ongoing Support: As you progress through managing your property, PLP biologist are available to answer questions and provide revisions to your plan as the need arises. Please reach out if you have a question! We want to work through the process on your property as best we can, and appreciate phone calls or emails to better help us keep in touch.
