Free, Fun Event Open to Public: Get Outside at 18th Annual JAKES Day at Charlie Elliott

MANSFIELD, Ga. (4/22/2014)

Don’t come alone – be sure to bring the whole family, and some friends, to experience this entertaining outdoor fun day!  The free event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sat., May 10 at the Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center near Mansfield, Georgia.

Free admission includes an array of activities that focus on Georgia wildlife, conservation, and outdoor recreational opportunities.  Kids can try archery, fishing, shooting sports, and can go on a mini-boat ride led by Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ conservation rangers. Live animal presentations, face painting, solar viewing with the Atlanta Astronomy Club, and exhibitors displaying wildlife-themed booths add to the festivities.

And this year, we also suggest you go “climb a tree.” No, really.  Between 10 am – 12:30 pm, take the opportunity to take part in a tree climbing class.  This rope-assisted activity will help you recapture the fun of climbing and provide a rekindled appreciation for our natural environment.

The first 500 kids receive a free hot dog lunch (adults can eat for a nominal fee), thanks to sponsors of the event, the Wildlife Resources Division and the Georgia Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation.

Before you leave the Charlie Elliott property, be sure to stop by the Visitors’ Center to tour the museum and take advantage of special sales in the gift shop.

To get to CEWC, take I-20 to Exit 98. Travel south on Highway 11, go through Mansfield and continue three miles south to the entrance at Marben Farm Road on the left.  Then follow the signs to the Discovery Area.  This event will be held rain or shine.
