FREE Outdoor Communicator Workshop Scheduled for Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center

MANSFIELD, Ga. (2/26/2014)

Interested in developing a career in writing or communicating about the outdoors?  A free all-day seminar, “How to Become an Outdoor Communicator,” is scheduled for March 11, 2014 at the Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center.

This seminar, hosted by Georgia author William Hovey Smith, will provide information on the potential for selling traditional outdoor-related materials to newspapers, magazines, radio, video and TV markets.  Additionally, emerging opportunities in social media, such as blogs, YouTube, Flickr, Pinterest and e-book publications will be discussed.

The seminar begins at 10 a.m. at the Discovery Center at Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center.  A wildlife cooking demonstration will take place at noon, with further presentations continuing post-lunch through 4 p.m.  Informal discussions with Smith and other outdoor writers and videographers will follow ‘round the campfire.

William Hovey Smith sold his first magazine articles in the 1970’s and has published 15 books, 9 e-books, 300 YouTube videos, made multiple television appearances, produced the “Hovey’s Outdoor Adventures” podcast radio show, and written thousands of newspaper, magazine and outdoor blog articles.  He currently is the corresponding editor for Gun Digest Annual covering blackpowder guns, and regularly appears on the “Welcome to Our North” television program.

Smith’s hunting adventures have taken him all over North America and trips to Europe and Africa.  His books include Backyard Deer Hunting: Converting Deer to Dinner for Pennies per Pound, Crossbow Hunting, Practical Bowfishing and a new e-book series (eight books) on muzzleloading guns.

Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center is located near Mansfield, less than an hour southeast of Atlanta off Interstate 20.  The address is 543 Elliott Trail, Mansfield 30055.  The Outdoor Communicator Workshop will take place at the Brooke Ager Discovery Center.
