Sapelo Island ferry users and other interested citizens are invited to review a proposed amendment to the Sapelo Island Access and Transportation Rule concerning ferry fee rates. According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division (WRD), comments related to the amendment may be submitted through Jan. 7, 2013.
The ferry rate changes are proposed to help mitigate increased operational costs while continuing to meet essential services. Round-trip fees for individual guests, such as private tour participants, overnight guests, day-use visitors and private contractors is proposed to increase from $2 to $5. Round-trip ferry fees for Department of Natural Resources guests, such as Reynolds Mansion guests, wildlife management area hunt participants, Cabretta campground guests and Sapelo Island National Estuarine Research Reserve tours, is proposed to increase from $10 to $15 (children from $6 to $10).
