NEW! Free Three Month Range Pass for New Hunter Education Graduates

Recent Hunter Education graduates can now "Give it a Shot!" with a NEW three month range pass to any of the Department of Natural Resources' 18 shooting ranges.

How it Works

  • Once you have completed the Hunter Education course and passed the test, you will receive a Hunter Education certification card. The back of that card has an effective date. You will have free access to DNR shooting ranges for three months after the effective date listed.

  • When you arrive at the range, you must sign in at the Range Safety Officer station. Show the Range Safety Officer your Hunter Education certification card and your license requirement will be waived.

Typically, a $19 wildlife management area license or other qualifying license is required for range access for anyone 16 years old and older. Now, in addition to purchasing a hunting license after the completion of Hunter Education, graduates have free access to these DNR ranges for three months after their graduation date.

Shooting ranges are open year-round and have rules in place to ensure a safe, family-friendly environment. Ranges are staffed by DNR personnel or volunteers.
